Nearly 200 showed up for last night's Start Up Downtown, an event organized by Florida Works, Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce, and Innovation Gainesville. The event was put together to match local technology workers with start-ups in the area.
Companies set up booths along the balcony of Union Street Station and attendees could approach the different companies.
In the mix of the 20 local companies that took part were Mobiquity, Grooveshark, Swamp Mobile, Sporting Odyssey, Stage 7, Fracture, NeuroNet Learning, SharpSpring, and Study Edge. Students and young professionals alike spoke with company representatives to see if they would be a good fit within the organizations.
In an interview with the Gainesville Sun, Kim Tesch-Vaught, director of Florida Works, stated: "The goal is to show how cool our startup community is and to create face-to-face interaction with the community and people who are hiring."
